Driver and vehicle safety is vital to our industry and your contractor business. The National Truck Driving Championships were started in 1937 to help develop safety standards and increase the overall professionalism of drivers. Auto Park Fleet is again proud to partner with the NTDC for this year’s competition.
The NTDC competitors consist of winners in eight competition classes from 50 State Championships. Each driver has a chance to demonstrate their driving and inspection skills, knowledge, and professionalism, through a series of tests. First, the drivers undergo a written examination, a pre-trip inspection test, and finally, the most visible - the skills test. These annual competitions inspire tens of thousands of drivers to operate accident-free for the right to compete.
“The drivers take it very seriously, and they want to win.” Says Jacob Pierce. “There’s no joking around the day the drivers get into their briefing rooms because they all want to take home a championship. But it’s not just about the competition. It’s about what it all entails: the promotion and celebration of safety.”
Auto Park Fleet has supplied step vans for the skills course since 2016. “It’s a great relationship.” Says Pierce. “It’s a committed relationship that we can count on and trust. We sincerely appreciate it, and it means a lot to the competition. It also shows Auto Park Fleet’s commitment to safety by connecting themselves to a one-of-a-kind safety program that is recognizable across the industry.”
Dan McDonough, Operations Director with Auto Park Fleet, agrees. “As a national leader in the industry, we feel driver and vehicle safety is something we should be promoting. We feel it’s a good organization with good people, and we want to support them.”
The 2022 National Truck Driving Championships are coming August 16-19 in Indianapolis, IN. Visit their website for more information. ntdc.trucking.org
