Driver Shortages Affecting Transport Companies

December 14, 2021

It’s hard for companies to find employees right now. That’s the same story from business to business and coast to coast. And just like it’s hard finding drivers for your parcel delivery business, the transport companies that deliver our trucks are no exception.

Dan McDonough, Operations Director for Auto Park Fleet explains.

“Overall, product shipping out of our area is very good. But people have to understand, it isn't just our trucks that need to be delivered. They’re delivering ambulances, buses, RV’s, and a myriad of different vehicles that are made in this area, all using the same base of companies and drivers.”

Dan continues, “The delivery companies are really, really struggling to get anyone to come to work for them because they generally can’t compete with other higher-paying jobs in the area, who are also having trouble finding employees.”

“Also, most drivers are independent operators and choose the routes they want. If you're in the northeast it’s going to be harder for us to get your truck delivered in the same amount of time as maybe somewhere else. It’s hard to get in and out of those northeast cities with a big truck and many drivers just don't want to deal with that.”

“We also have to remember the first letter in ETA stands for estimated. We never give anyone an exact arrival date because we have no control over the shipping company.”

Given all of this, if time is of the essence, Dan suggests arranging to come pick up your new truck in person. “Even if it's a pain, sometimes you’re better off coming in to pick up because there’s just no guarantee the transport companies can deliver within your timeframe.

As always, Auto Park Fleet is ready to work with you and get you the new trucks you need as quickly as possible. Give us a call today and find out if your new truck is available for pick-up.
